Living Outside the Will of God

Updated: Jul 13, 2021

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6 KJV

When we live outside of the will of God, we render ourselves useless to Him. It as if we are saying to Him that we trust our own judgment more than His. We are showing that we truly do not trust Him, nor respect His authority or His power. We think we know more of what is best for us than God does. We would rather live life our own way and walk down our own path, instead of the one that He has already laid for us. We must remember that God does not force His will on anyone. He will let you go down whatever path you choose. When we live outside of the will of God, we lose his covering and protection. When we chose to walk contrary to God’s way and we chose to walk our own way, we forfeit His blessings, favor, and His mercy.

Many of us are familiar with the story of Moses and the children of Israel. What started as an 11-day journey, turned into 40 years of desolation, simply because they failed to obey. They wandered in the desert when all they had to do was trust God and continue to walk in obedience. But instead, they complained, were ungrateful, idolatrous, disregarded his commandments, and as a result, suffered the consequences.

“For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: unto whom the Lord swear that he would not shew them the land, which the Lord swear unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.” Joshua 5:6 KJV

Like the children of Israel, there are many, today, who are choosing to wander in the wilderness. Instead of following the voice of God, many have/are being deceived and enticed by the lies of the enemy. His lies have blinded them to the truth. He has deceived them into thinking that it is too hard to live a life completely sold out for Christ. And they have no intentions nor feel any obligation to live right. They are too attached to the things of this world and do not want to let go of it. The enemy has convinced them that they are living a life without consequences, but that is so far from the truth. It is never wise to rebel against God. There are consequences of sin — It ALWAYS comes with a price. You cannot live outside the will of God and be at peace.

Therefore, to him, that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

James 4:17 KJV

Sin is willful disobedience to God. Our decisions to sin and disobey God, not only affect us but also affects those we love or are attached to us. Just like Saul when he disobeyed God. His actions not only affected him but those around him. Saul was a king, chosen by God, but rather than follow God’s commands, he let pride overtake him. He chose to do things his own way and ultimately it led to his demise. He lost sight of God and suffered the consequences as well. He lost his army, his sons and eventually took his own life.

“And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.” 1 Samuel 15:22-23 KJV

The devil does not play fair…...he plays for keeps. He will make available to you, whatever it is that you are struggling with. He will make it very convenient for you to get it or see it. There are no coincidences……he does everything on purpose. He knows our triggers. He knows our weaknesses and studies us well. Therefore, we cannot afford to take our eyes off of God…...not even for a second, minute, or hour. If you are willfully walking in disobedience, you will not be able to hear the voice of God or obey Him. You will end up walking down the wrong path. One that will lead directly to sin. We are too close to the end to gamble with our salvation. Is it worth the risk?

“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land. But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”

Isaiah 1:19-20 KJV

Sin will keep you spiritually blind and in bondage. Sin keeps us out of right fellowship with God. If you are not living or walking right, it is not too late. Repent and pray for deliverance from whatever it is that has you bound and is keeping you living outside of the will of God. If you are unsure of what that might be, pray and ask God to reveal it to you. Trust in Him, Believe in Him, and Depend on Him. You can be forgiven, transformed, redeemed, restored, and set free!

“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, it is he that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” John 14:21 KJV

God’s Will for us, simply, is to live holy and walk upright. His plan and purpose for our lives are laid out in His Holy Word. His divine instructions will guide us in every aspect of our lives. As true believers in Christ, we should want to obey God and live the life that he designed for us. We should desire to walk in the light of the Lord and not walk and live in darkness. We cannot serve God and dance with the devil too. We cannot claim to love God yet fail to yield to His word and His commands. To experience the fullness of God, to experience true peace, happiness, and resounding joy…...stay in His will!
